10. Post Scriptum words:

1. Tweaking Guide is the best to apply on the fresh installation on Windows XP. Use Tweak Guide`s recommendations from the first days of usage of PC.

2. Windows XP is very demanding OS. All the executed processes in Windows XP will load RAM memory and load swap-file on Hard Drive if RAM-memory is not enough. Get as much RAM memory as you can afford! RAM memory is much faster than the memory from swap-file which is placed on slow Hard Drive.

3. Using one Hard Drive with one logical disk on it is not a good idea. In this situation Hard Drive loses access speed to data because all manipulations like reading/writing swap and system files, reading/writing files and data occurs simultaneously on one disk. We recommend you to create additional partitions on Hard Drive. For example:

    C:\ disk for OS and system files

    D:\ disk - archive for photos, movies, music

    E:\ disk for games or business applications

4. Using 2 or more Hard Drives speed up access to data and add more reliability for backup files.

5. Use NTFS file system instead of FAT32. NTFS is a modern and powerful file system.

"The NTFS file system provides better performance and security for data on hard disks and partitions or volumes than the FAT file system used in some earlier version of Windows. If you have a partition that uses the earlier FAT16 or FAT32 file system, you can convert it to NTFS by using the convert command. Converting to NTFS does not affect the data on the partition."

Run WinTools.net and select Command Prompt... point of menu (you run Command Prompt with Administrator rights):

In the Command Prompt window, type convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs, where drive_letter is the letter of the drive you want to convert, and then press ENTER. For example, convert D: /fs:ntfs would convert drive D to the NTFS format.

6. Do not forget Backup your data! Hard Drives of modern computers are reliable enough but not 100% reliable. Your data and documents is usually the most important information for you in the world. Backups may help you in sad situations if the system/PC is crashed.
